We have always loved the idea of reading our way through all the big, hefty award lists out there, from Nobel prize winners to Caldecott award winning childrens books, as well as all the “100 Books to Read Before You Fall Asleep” and what-have-yous. This is going to be the home for the various lists we read through.
Current Reading Lists:
Pulitzer Prize for Fiction Winners and Finalists: Started July 2015
Upcoming Reading Lists:
The Randolph Caldecott Medal annually recognizes the preceding year’s “most distinguished American picture book for children”, beginning with 1937 publications.
The Newberry Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction winners – I like to think of this as the UK Pulitzer
The Man Booker Prize is awarded each year for the best original novel, written in the English language, and published in the UK
The Man Booker International Prize winners
From 2016, the prize will be awarded annually for a single work of fiction, translated into English and published in the UK, rather than every two years for a writer’s entire body of work. Both novels and collections of short stories will be eligible.
The Yale Younger Poets prize is the oldest annual literary award in the United States. The competition is open to any American under forty years of age who has not previously published a volume of poetry.
Books by winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature – I haven’t quite figured this one out yet!
